Calling
Matthew
25:37
"Then the righteous will answer
him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give
you something to drink?"
"Your calling
to be of service to God on this planet earth may be very simple or it may
be a major undertaking. If your calling is carried out within God's love
and under his control it will succeed by bringing glory and honour to the
King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Praise be to God forever."
Yesterday
as I was shopping for groceries I met a couple whom I hadn't seen for several
years. This couple, who are about 80 years of age, are friends from a former
church we attended. As we were talking about our families I was led by
the Holy Spirit to thank them both for all the help they had provided for
us during some difficult years when we first started our family. It had
been a tough time for us and this couple had opened their doors and their
hearts to us. They fed us, prayed for us and gave us that encouragement
and support we needed to make it through each day.
Their
saintly and angelic service to us may have been to them at the time just
doing what was right but in reflecting upon this after the fact this was
much more. This was God's calling to them and they responded not just with
words but with actions. At this time this couple were close to 68 years
in age, almost 25 years older than us, but this did not stop them following
God's calling and acting upon it.
Whether
young or old we can be called by God. It doesn't matter what age you are
or what situation you are in, you can be called by God to be of service
to Him. Called not only to people your own age but to any age, young or
old, and with the skills and talents you already have. Ask God to use you
in his calling and service and He will.
