Sanctum Security
Matthew
18:5-7
But if anyone causes one of
these little ones who
believe in me to sin, it would
be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to
be drowned in the depths of
the sea.
Within each of us is an inner
sanctum or a sacred place free from outside intrusion. We can refer to
this as the heart, soul or the emotional centre of a person. Within
this area resides qualities, feelings and personal characteristics that
make us unique from others. Integrity, emotional makeup, secret longings,
dreams, compassion, love, phobias, fears, secret sins etc. reside here.
Our outward actions reflect some of the inner sanctum makeup. Those outward
actions show what we are like and how we interact with others.
Our inner sanctum is a a very
private place and we only allow out what we want to let out and generally
we do not allow anyone in to this inner sanctum to see, hear or meddle
with our most private thoughts and feelings.
God is the one person who does
come into that inner sanctum to see what's happening. Since God is love
He comes only to nurture and direct for the good. In marriages husbands
and wives come into this area as well for a mutual building up. Psychiatrist
and psychologist also come into this area to bring healing.
There are times when uninvited
invasions are made into one's inner sanctum, violating that most
private place of a person. This can be done through mind games, deceit,
lust, character attack and verbal abuse.
To carry out these acts violates
the most sacred of places in a person. To disturb the inner sanctum
of a person, especially for the purpose of harm will bring a trauma
than can be long lasting.
The inner sanctum of a person
is private and off limits except to a few persons. It's off limits because
it's the central core of a person, giving the person a unique identity,
personhood and self control to that person. To dismantle this structure
is to take away the persons identity and personhood and make it public
property controlled not by the individual any more but by others.
Jesus knew what was in the
inner sanctum of each person before He met them and brought healing and
encouragement. We can't always see what's in a person's inner sanctum but
we can bring healing and encouragement as Jesus did.
The way of Satin would be to
bring destruction to a person's inner sanctum and making it public property
in the form of character attacks, revenge, jealousies, lust, greed, deceit,
doubts, etc., and succeed in destroying a person's uniqueness and identity
and bringing weakness and insecurity to the person and the community.
The way of Jesus is to
build up, encourage and nurture each other to strengthen our inner sanctum
makeup and bring strength and security to the person and the community
.
Respect the sacredness of each
person's inner sanctum as their private domain, a hands off place to others
and having an ownership that's not for sale.
